Hey there! Today I’m excited to announce that Race Day is heading to SEMA, the massive automotive convention in Las Vegas. This will be my sixth time covering the show, and the second time covering it for RD.
I’m fascinated by the aftermarket because it’s about people. Every day the auto industry sells cars to people who couldn’t care less what they drive. But the aftermarket depends on enthusiasts. It’s grown into a $52 billion business annually, and its customers are passionate. They’ll willingly spend hundreds—or thousands—making their cars more fun, more flashy or more powerful. SEMA is your chance to impress them. Your showing at SEMA can make or break a company.
That’s what makes it worthy of being covered seriously. A lot of people take SEMA for a joke. But the aftermarket is big business. It deserves original, in-depth reporting to help people better understand the industry. To do that, I need your help.
Please consider starting a paid subscription to Race Day to help support the trip. I’ll be in Vegas from Tuesday, November 5th to Friday, November 8th, hitting the convention floor to bring you the hottest stories.
What do I plan on covering? Here’s a taste:
Hot or Not: Which companies are making money. And losing it.
Acquisition City: How mergers are prepping brands for the future.
Splashy Products: Game-changing debuts on the show floor.
All-Star Cars: Vehicles getting all the attention and why.
The EV Report: How the industry is adapting to electrification.
Each day, I’ll post a morning roundup with news, notes and rumors from the show. These could include lists, photo galleries, interesting numbers or interviews with leading analysts and executives.
All of this content will be behind a paywall, too. So your paid subscription isn’t just helping me cover SEMA, it’s also providing you with exclusive reporting that can’t be found anywhere else.
I’ve spent much of this year building my reputation as an authority on the aftermarket.
Here are my takeaways: The industry is in transition, and some companies are well-prepared for the future while plenty of others are not. Aftermarket leaders have an opportunity to set the course (like Brembo’s recent power move), while smaller players are scrapping for shrinking slices of the pie. With the EV revolution looming, SEMA is everyone’s chance to show that they’re ready for the new wave, or that their existing product line is so strong that it doesn’t really matter. Either way, November is when they bring out the big guns.
With your help, I’ll be there to tell you all about it.
