Happy Race Day, especially to Kansas City Chiefs fullback Anthony Sherman for pulling up to the first day of training camp in a NASCAR:
This may be the first instance of fast car slow of which I approve.
Well, we actually did it. We threw a live reading of my debut book, Slow Car Fast, last Sunday in front of a packed crowd.
This was a labor of love all the way around. I got to celebrate with friends, make new friends and hand off physical copies of my real-life book to go out into the world!
It was in my hometown, at my friends’ brewery, generating revenue for my talented friends who worked on it. I couldn’t be more proud or more honored. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Huge shout out to the champions who brought cars for our small show out back. Thank you Matt Farah, Iliya Bridan, Grant Hudson and Sean and Merritt Morris for taking time to come and share your babies with everyone.
So yes, the book is officially out. And all 50 paperback copies sold during the reading. However we’ve received numerous requests to pick up more, so…
Wait list spots for the next run of paperback books are open now. Email ryan@carrarabooks.com to get your name on the list. When the number reaches a point that it makes sense to order a box, we’ll let everyone know. Very excited to offer this to everyone and truly hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed creating it.
Looking for a deal on Slow Car Fast? Preorders for the eBook are still open, and you can use coupon code “RACEDAY” to slash the price to $11.99 compared with $19.99 plus shipping for the print version. Reminder: the eBook releases August 19.
Again, huge thanks to everyone who came to the event, but also spread the word on social media, or sent messages of love and support. I would love to hold more readings. Hopefully we will have some news for you on that front soon!

Culture
I talk a lot about car shows turning into car festivals. No better example than Gridlife Alpine Horizon, the annual three-day party in Colorado that combines all driving styles with live music and entertainment. Great recap video here:
Wait… why was that guy filming with a beer car?
Last week I alluded to stunt driver Brionna Lynch meeting up with Hungarian drifters during a work trip. Here’s the video of their shred sesh. It includes the phrase, “I’m like a sexy car wash.”
Pro-am drifter Nick Franco told this newsletter a few weeks ago his main goal was to earn a pro license this season. He did that on Saturday. Congratulations Nick!
Video Reel
The top ten moments of the World Rally Championship season so far do not disappoint. The top ten crashes are even better.
Automotive media group Race Service strapped a GoPro to a Mercedes G-Wagen and hopped a bunch of curbs to chase drift cars around the track.
The Bugatti Aérolithe Concept from 1934 is one of the most important designs ever, and earns plenty of ink in Slow Car Fast. Here’s Jay Leno driving an incredibly accurate replica, down to the magnesium body.
You can see the Aérolithe at the Atlanta Concours d’Elegance this October.
Race Results
The 24 Hours of Spa is a crown jewel in any racer’s cap. This year the action was wet and wild. I fully recommend the highlights if you want to see what motorsport majesty looks like.
The rain also caused havoc at the German Grand Prix, where one F1 driver after another crashed out in exactly the same spot.
Felix Rosenqvist, a rookie with no career wins, went toe-to-toe with five-time IndyCar champion Scott Dixon at the Honda Indy 200, and the result was thrilling. Watch it here.
This year’s new Blancpain World Challenge GT Series will be expanded next year to include classic endurance races, and add two more: one in Shanghai and one in the U.S. Here’s two minutes of these awesome cars to celebrate:
And Finally…
If you’ve ever wondered what car first stole my heart, this one is pretty damn close:
Christmas is right around the corner, you guys.
Drive hard and be safe.
