Larry Chen Inducted into Formula Drift HOF
Photographer and Carrara Media author becomes first non-driver inductee.
Formula Drift will induct photographer Larry Chen into the 2025 class of its Hall of Fame, the series announced Saturday during its season-opening round at the Streets of Long Beach.
Chen has served as the official photographer of FD since 2012, and has worked with the series since the beginning of his professional career in 2006. He is the first photographer, and first non-driver, to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
“He has carried on his back an industry of independent photographers and media people, and has been able to show them how you do this,” said Formula Drift co-founder Ryan Sage.
Recognized as the preeminent documenter of car culture around the globe, Chen counts over 1 million followers on Instagram and will publish his first book, Life At Shutter Speed, with Carrara Media later this year.
Chen is the sole inductee in the Class of 2025, the third class since the Hall of Fame was created in 2023. He joins former series champions Rhys Millen, Samuel Hubinette and Tanner Foust.
“This is really too much,” Chen said. “I appreciate [Formula Drift] so much for giving me the platform to create the best drifting content possible.”
Alongside fellow inductees, Chen’s name will be etched into a monument near the Long Beach track to honor important figures in the series’ history. Inductees also receive a specially-designed ring encrusted with diamonds and gemstones.
“The social media profiles that people have today are in large part because of what Larry has inspired,” Sage said.

Larry is such a stand-up guy. Really happy for him. Also, good on FD for recognizing his massive contribution.
